Record Year for alfabet in IT Planning and Business IT Management Market in 2008

Revenue up 80% in 2008 vs. 2007; EBITDA Grew by 152%

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Feb.18, 2009 — alfabet, a leading software provider in IT planning and business IT management, today announced record results for 2008.

EBITDA grew by 152% in 2008 vs.2007 and revenue was up by 80% for the same period – well above the market average of 12-20% growth, according to latest statistics [The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Architecture Tools, Q2 2007 by Henry Peyret, April 25th, 2007].

alfabet now has about 20,000 users in 40 countries. To help deliver against this increased demand, alfabet grew its employee base in all three business regions of US, Europe and Asia Pacific significantly.

“CEOs, CIOs and also CFOs increasingly ask for process support providing information to better understand, plan and manage IT change and investments to deliver value to the business,” said Erik Masing, CEO and founder of alfabet.  “Especially in these economic times, companies are seeking support from vendors with truly referenceable clients. They want to invest in solutions that work now rather than later. This is why we are outperforming in the market, and also migrating a considerable amount of clients from competitive point tools.”


Other highlights for the year included the following:

  • alfabet signed major deals with globally active companies across all industry sectors such as The Hartford, Cabela’s, BP, Evonik Industries, BMW, Generali, Zurich Financial Services. APAC operations, which were launched at the beginning of 2008, took off with the signing of several new clients showing strong demand from the financial services sector.
  • Logica, Syngenio AG and Argos Advisory joined alfabet’s international partner network.
  • Market analysts continue to follow alfabet’s progress closely. The company led in all major product studies and market analyst reviews:
    • alfabet topped competitors for a third year running in comprehensive study of enterprise architecture products by Technical University of Munich based on exhaustive comparative product tests of 13 vendors.
    • alfabet was positioned in the leader’s quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools Magic Quadrant by Gartner, Inc.
    • Forrester Research, Inc. recognized alfabet as a leader in IT planning and the highest scoring company in terms of revenue growth in this market [The Forrester Wave: Business Process Analysis, EA Tools, and IT Planning, Q1 2009,” Forrester Research, Inc., January 2009].

  • Two new major releases of planningIT were successfully launched in April and October, adding automated workflow and data quality management, blueprint planning, milestone tracking as well as many new powerful capabilities in the area of program portfolio management to the product suite.
