Release Management
-
The Release Management module provides mechanisms to refine and specify strategic plans so they can be used as operational instructions for deployment and allow communication with CMDBs triggering the ITIL change management processes. It couples IT strategic planning with development/build environments and supports the deployment planning process of applications, components and standard platforms.
Benefits:
- Manage and track applications, components and standard platforms from their instantiations throughout their change life cycles, thus improving predictability of operational impact analysis.
- Narrow the gap between business strategic plans - IT strategic plans – and IT deployments and ensure alignment of strategic and operational planned environments
- Improved governance of roll-out processes and user community acceptance of new releases
- Efficient realization of strategic plans on operational level through clear definition of stacks, sub-stacks and deployments at a level of granularity that allows for installation and maintenance
- Relationship links can be established between the logical representation of the IT landscape as used for strategic, tactical and operational planning and the information on physical installations as typically captured in Configuration Management Databases (CMDB).
- Achieve instant transparency of the existing stacks, sub-stacks and their deployments aided by an array of automatically generated reports
- Integrated process framework channels data about new application, component and standard platform releases into the Enterprise Architecture Management module where check-in mechanisms quickly assess the strategic compliance of proposed new releases.
The Release Management module displays the components forming the SAP Platform 4.9 standard platform and depicts whether these components are compliant with the IT architecture strategy.
