Technical Requirements

alfabet software streamlines data collection, to encourage widespread user communities to update content. Any member of the organization can access the system by clicking a web link, or optionally be using a Windows client. alfabets technical requirements are:

Database Server

• CPU Pentium IV minimum
• RAM 2 GB minimum (4 GB or more recommended)
• Hard Disk: Disc space for database: Initial database size: < 1 GB; Database increase: 700 MB/year (typical usage)

alfabet Server

• CPU Pentium IV minimum
• RAM 2 GB minimum (4 GB or more recommended)
• Hard Disk: Approx. 70 MB; 1 GB free space in the system temporary files directory (typical setup)
• Software required: Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0.

Web Application Server

• CPU Pentium IV minimum
• RAM 2 GB minimum (4 GB or more recommended)
• Hard Disk: Approx. 500 MB; 1 GB free space in the runtime subdirectory of the Web application directory
• Software required: Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0.

Windows-Client

• CPU 1 GHz; recommended Intel Pentium IV with 3.0 GHz
• RAM 256 MB; recommended: 1 GB
• Hard Disk: 200 MB (installation) and 100 MB (temporary files)
• Software required: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0; Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0 - 8.0

Web-Client

• CPU 1 GHz; recommended Intel Pentium IV with 3.0 GHz
• RAM 256 MB; recommended: 2 GB
• Hard Disk: 200 MB (installation) and 100 MB (temporary files)
• Browser: Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0 - 7.0
• Session cookies required

Network

• 10 Mbit/s minimum; recommended: 1 GBit/s free bandwidth for each concurrent Client/Server connection

Operating system

• Windows client: Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 or higher, Windows XP 32 Bit Version: Service Pack 1 or higher, Windows Vista®, 32 Bit Version
• Server: Windows Server 2008, 64-bit and 32-bit version with MS IIS 7.0 and ASP.NET ("Application Server"); Windows Server 2003, 64-bit and 32-bit version with MS IIS 6.0 and ASP.NET ("Application Server"); Windows 2000 Server®, 4-bit and 32-bit version, SP3 or higher with Microsoft® IIS 5.0

Software and database requirements (distributed environment)

• Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0 - 7.0 for web client; Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0 - 8.0 for windows client
• MS .NET 2.0 Framework (freeware) necessary for servers and windows clients
• Database Server: MS SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 or Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g DBMS

Security

• Embedded backup functionality is provided
• Commercial backup and recovery mechanisms can be used to back up and recover the commercial DBMS
