alfabet Announces
planningIT Release 5.0 including support for Microsoft Office Visio®
2007
alfabet is pleased to announce Release 5.0 of planningIT for IT
planning and management. This major new release includes significant
new capabilities aimed at enhancing the user experience with powerful
visualization techniques and anchoring planningIT in critical issues
such as IT Management Integration and Risk Management.
In order to provide users of Microsoft Office Visio® 2007 the
ability to visualize IT planning and management information from
planningIT in a familiar viewing environment, Release 5.0 offers
support for Microsoft Office Visio® 2007 diagrams. Microsoft
Office Visio® 2007's flexible drawing features are the perfect
complement to planningIT’s powerful IT planning capabilities.
Users can drill down from a Microsoft Office Visio® 2007 diagram
into the planningIT inventory to view detailed information on a
planning object and explore its many different relationships to
understand its impact to the IT landscape.
Information integrity across the IT Management process is the target
of Release 5.0's streamlined integration between IT management products
and planningIT. New information exchange mechanisms support full
net change capability, regular and frequent synchronization between
the system of record and planningIT, and imbedding into existing
Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) infrastructures and Extract,
Transform and Load (ETL) solutions.
planningIT now offers the possibility to assess applications, business
processes, projects and other IT objects according to their degree
of risk exposure, for example risk of non-compliancy to regulatory
or contractual guidelines, or risk to business continuity. Those
objects scoring a high degree of risk exposure according to defined
enterprise standards can then be further evaluated in detail as
to what the danger to the enterprise actually is – be it monetary
damages, degradation in customer service, or legal jeopardy –
in order to know what mitigation strategy is appropriate. Projects
to mitigate risk can then be initiated and channelled through the
standard IT planning process.
Further new features include:
Discussion Groups promoting collaboration on all IT planning-relevant
objects
and processes
Personalized
Cockpits delivering a fast-path overview of user-relevant information
on an IT object
Treemaps
and Layered Diagrams for sophisticated visualization for
transparency of object ecosystems
Enhancements
to Automated Workflow supporting process change and precise
delegation

Major Asian
Bank Selects planningIT to Streamline Projects and Reduce Risks
and Costs
alfabet recently announced that one of Asia’s leading financial
services groups has licensed alfabet’s planningIT to improve
management and co-ordination of its planning processes across its
IT operations world-wide.
With group assets of approximately $118 billion, the bank is one
of the largest financial institutions in the combined Singapore-Malaysia
market, and is also one of Asia's leading financial services groups.
It presides over an extensive global network of more than 470 branches
and representative offices in 15 countries and territories in the
Asia-Pacific region, the United States and the United Kingdom.
In selecting alfabet’s planningIT, the financial giant was
particularly impressed with the product’s ability to provide
end-to-end transparency for complete IT landscape. planningIT will
replace an in-house developed repository tool, which had become
a costly drain on resources to manually maintain and keep information
up-to-date. Bank stakeholders involved in project planning processes
can now effectively plan and track proposed solutions in planningIT
and seamlessly manage approved projects via a standard interface
to CA’s Clarity PPM tool. As a result the bank will be able
to gain greater insights to more effectively realign budgets, priorities
and assignments as well as a true understanding of the total cost
of IT ownership.

Upcoming alfabet
Webinar "Reducing IT Operating Expenses and Prioritizing Capital
Investments"
Today more than ever, companies face the dilemma of having to make
tough decisions on prioritizing and rationalizing IT spending -
without compromising IT support or alignment with strategy. For
many, the problem lies in the lack of transparency into business
priorities, IT cost drivers, the project portfolio and the IT landscape.
Without sufficient insight into these aspects, CapEx prioritization
and OpEx management in the current climate risk jeopardizing business
performance.
alfabet is pleased to announce its upcoming webinar on effectively
controlling IT spending and investment. The webinar will focus on
how to reduce operational expense and prioritize capital expenditure
to optimize IT costs without endangering future business success.
Guest speaker, Hannes Rosskopf, from Credit Suisse, will provide
insight into his company's efforts in achieving cost transparency
and understanding the business-IT relationship to be able to drive
business value in a cost-conscious fashion.
Relating to today’s difficult business environment, this
webinar will deliver practical advice on how to identify the true
cost drivers of IT to eliminate waste. It will introduce alfabet's
new Control IT and Save service for IT Finance Management. The service
aims at helping companies cut costs while showing what the impact
to the business will be.
The webinar is free of charge and will be presented on May 19,
2009.
