Leading Analyst Firm Recognizes alfabet’s planningIT as the Most Advanced Solution for EA Road-mapping

In a new report published by independent analyst firm Forrester Research Inc., entitled “Tooling EA Road Maps,” by Henry Peyret, January 10, 2008, “Forrester recommends that customers press their existing EA tool vendors to deliver road-mapping capabilities – now.” The report finds that “unfortunately, apart from a single vendor – alfabet – enterprise architecture (EA) tool vendors are only just starting to develop their road-mapping capabilities.”

When organizations road-map with alfabet’s planningIT, they are able to collaboratively plan and manage the numerous and nontrivial steps along the way. This could include strategic demands, projects, scenarios, application lifecycles and instances of technology to be adopted or retired as well as budget considerations to lead them to the always-evolving target landscape. planningIT’s unique methodology supports the automation of this process over time.

Peyret writes “Architects in decentralized or federated IT organizations face the most difficulty in coordinating planning activity. They must synchronize road maps with external changes and involve more individuals from line-of-business IT units with roles like project portfolio manager, IT strategist, and business analyst. For these enterprise architects, managing the time dimension is critical to effective planning.” According to the report, “alfabet’s planningIT is the most advanced solution” that supports organizations in achieving this goal.

alfabet Featured in ZapThink Podcast on the Business Side of Implementing SOA

In a recently published ZapThink podcast, Dr. Uli Kalex, VP Product Line Management at alfabet discusses the relevance of classical management decisions when planning and implementing SOA.

When embarking on a SOA initiative, organizations need to determine which services to invest in based on services' abilities to advance the strategic goals of the enterprise and the risk that could be incurred by their implementation. This requires a thorough planning phase for SOA efforts involving examination of business strategies, business goals and business demands and is an important part of SOA governance. Best practices in EA management as promoted by alfabet ensure proper governance and are as such applicable and beneficial to SOA planning and management. These best practices include a process-oriented, collaborative and data-driven approach to managing the planning process.

The ZapThink podcast covers the issues and activities that are relevant to the management side of SOA as opposed to the technical side and provide the listener with a guideline for determining which areas of the business can benefit most from SOA.
